Broker or translator?
The saying goes, "from the mouths of babes, oft times come gems" and if you're ever looking for a simple way to explain to people you meet what it is you do for a living then you could do worse than ask a 12-year-old.
A couple of days ago I was talking to my youngest and explaining what it is I do each day. He listened as I explained how I help businesses arrange their insurance which was a way of them protecting themselves against bad things. I told him that I wasn't the insurance company myself but merely introduced my clients to the right insurer and help them get along together, making sure that my clients understood the sometimes bafflng jargon thrown at them by insurance companies.
He thought for a while and then said "so you're a bit of a translator then?"
I suppose I am. I help two parties understand each other by deciphering the language used and insuring understanding on both sites.
When considering how best to protect your business make sure you have a good translator on board.
